Asia – Now That’s Some Romance!

Krabi
OMG – I wanna go there!

Every corner of Asia is steeped in history, culture and exoticism – what could be more romantic than exploring this vast and mysterious continent?

Here are our top picks of the spots to share with the one you love.

Bali, Indonesia

A classic honeymoon destination.

The word ‘paradise’ is used a lot to describe Bali – and with its rugged coastlines, grandiose mountains and sandy beaches, it certainly looks the part.

What’s more, the locals are friendly, the culture is highly spiritual and despite its popularity with honeymooners and backpackers alike, the beaches remain unspoiled and uncrowded.

Hoi An, Vietnam

Oozing with charm and charisma, the river town of Hoi An is a melting pot of culture, history and romance.

Filled with dreamy architecture, the Ancient Town is a UNESCO World Heritage site and is entirely closed to cars.

The winding streets are filled with charming Chinese-influenced shops and bustling food markets and, as night falls, the lights twinkle and boats gently float down the river alight with candles.

Krabi, Thailand

Surely a contender for the most beautiful beaches in the world.

Thailand’s Krabi has all the ingredients for the ultimate romantic dating experience.

Balmy weather, white sands and crystal waters combine with a peacefulness and lack of tourists to offer an idyllic escape from the likes of popular Koh Samui and nearby Phuket.

Kyoto, Japan

Serving as the capital city of Japan for over a thousand years.

Kyoto offers an abundance of ancient temples, shrines and structures.

This is the place to find the Japan of your imagination, with beautiful geishas, raked pebble gardens, traditional restaurants and golden temples floating above serene waters.

Head there in the spring and you’ll witness the beauty of the cherry blossom season.

 Kandy, Sri Lanka

The last capital of the ancient kings’ era of Sri Lanka, Kandy is a majestic city lying scenically in the midst of rolling hills.

Nestled 500m above sea level, the high altitude gives the city a feeling of magical isolation and privacy, with a picturesquely tranquil lake lying just outside the centre.

Boasting a delightful jumble of old shops, antique specialists, a lively market and an abundance of restaurants, Kandy feels like a secret world unto itself.

Halong bay, Vietnam

As magnificent as it is mysterious, the limestone islets of Halong Bay are the perfect setting for a romantic sunset cruise.

Dotted with undiscovered beaches, deserted coves and hidden grottos, it boasts an ethereal air of eerie quiet.

Legend has it that the islets were created by a great dragon that lived in the mountains, gouging out the crevasses as it charged towards the coast.

When it finally plunged into the sea, the area overflowed with water, leaving only the ragged stone tops visible.

Agra, India

Admittedly, the busy and polluted city of Agra is nothing to write home about – but no list of Asia’s top romance spots would be complete without mentioning its infamous monument to love.

Agra’s days of glory as the capital of the Mughal Empire may be gone, but the Taj Mahal still stands, grand and imposing.

Built in 1632 by Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his wife, the mausoleum is regarded as the best example of Mughal architecture and is the ultimate ode to romance.

So if we’ve whet your appetites for a romantic Asian getaway, then don’t hesitate for a moment longer.

This summer, Expedia have a whole host of great deals on flights to Colombo, Krabi, Hanoi or Jakarta (to name a few) to get you on the road to romance.

    1. Welcome to your first comment, Damian.
If you and your wife had a choice which would be your first choice and why? I’m interested your reasoning as I’d like to return to Bali but still would like to get to Thailand too. Your thinking might sway me hahaha

  1. I also suggest trying the Philippines. My best friend and her hubby spent their first wedding anniversary in Palawan and loved the place. She said it was the perfect getaway.

    1. Yeah, I’ve heard some great things about the Philippines, Melissa.
For me (and Pam) we honeymooned in Bali – oh, how we love that place. Humble and wonderful people and I’ve been there more than 6 times now. Love Bali.
      Been to Asian places yourself?

      1. Haven’t yet. But I’m definitely planning to! Don’t want to miss out on those awesome beaches! :)
